God made him do it: Florida Rep. Mike Hill claims God spoke to him, and told him to introduce an abortion ban with no exceptions for rape, incest, or the life of the mother.

The Pensacola News Journal reports:

Florida Rep. Mike Hill told a group in Pensacola on Thursday that God told him to sponsor a bill next year to ban nearly all abortions, much like the bill that passed in Alabama earlier this month.

Speaking at a meeting of Women for Responsible Legislation at Pensacola City Hall Thursday, Rep. Hill said:

As plain as day, God spoke to me. He said that wasn’t my bill, talking about the heartbeat detection bill that I filed. He said that wasn’t my bill. I knew immediately what he was talking about. He said, you remove those exceptions and you file it again.

And I said yes Lord, I will. It’s coming back. It’s coming back. We are going to file that bill without any exceptions just like what we saw passed in Alabama.

It’s always problematic, and a big red flag, whenever anyone claims that God is speaking to them. For a politician to claim that God spoke to him in a cruel attempt to deny women their right to reproductive freedom, is simply deplorable.

Hill also said that he doesn’t need a woman to sponsor or defend his legislation. Speaking about his GOP colleagues’ desire to have a woman be the face of an abortion ban for the state, Hill said:

Another reason I heard, was that we only needed to file one pro-life bill per session and it should be run by a female. They said, ‘Well it seems to be accepted more, particularly during debate when a woman is presenting it.’ I said, wait a minute, a hundred percent of all pregnancies are caused by a man, so why can’t a man be involved in this? And that child that is there, 50% chance it’s going to be a man. Why can’t a man present this? That doesn’t hold any water with me at all.

Earlier this year Hill proposed a bill that would have banned abortions after a fetal heartbeat was detected. However that bill included exceptions “for rape, incest, medical emergency, human trafficking and domestic violence.” The bill died before getting a committee hearing. Hill’s new bill would allow for no such exceptions.

Hill’s bill would ban abortions in the state from the moment the heartbeat of a fetus can be detected. That’s usually around six weeks into a pregnancy, which is well before many women even know that they are pregnant at all.

Bottom line:  Florida Rep. Mike Hill claims God spoke to him, and told him to introduce an abortion ban with no exceptions for rape, incest, or the life of the mother.

The Republican War on Women continues, and now they claim God is on their side.
