Jesus or Jail: A deputy in rural Tennessee has been indicted on multiple charges after giving a woman busted with marijuana in her car a choice: Baptism or jail.

Hamilton County Sheriff’s Deputy Daniel Wilkey has been indicted and charged for multiple crimes, “including six counts of sexual battery, two counts of rape, nine counts of official oppression, extortion, stalking, assault and others.”

WDEF News 12 reports:

A Hamilton County Grand Jury handed down indictments against Deputy Daniel Wilkey over incidents he is accused of while on duty.

Wilkey faces multiple complaints in several lawsuits.

He is already under investigation after being accused of a cavity search of a man during a roadside traffic stop last spring.

Later Wilkey, and Deputy Jacob Goforth were accused of abducting a suspect and baptizing her in Soddy Lake.

Chattanooga Times Free Press reports:

Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Daniel Wilkey has been indicted on 44 criminal charges, including 25 felonies, “pertaining to incidents he was involved in while on duty in an official capacity,” according to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.

Wilkey, 26, has been at the center of a criminal investigation and at least four separate lawsuits involving traffic stops, during which he is accused of engaging in misconduct ranging from illegal drug searches and a roadside body cavity search to a forced baptism and the groping of female minors.

In short, Deputy Daniel Wilkey is a sick and twisted human being, and a dangerous Christian extremist.

Previously Progressive Secular Humanist reported that Wilkey forced a woman into an unwanted baptism after finding marijuana in the woman’s car during a traffic stop.

According to an an $11-million lawsuit filed by the woman against Wilkey and others, Deputy Wilkey told the woman he would not take her to jail but issue a criminal citation for the marijuana if she agreed to the baptism.

Wilkey has been on paid administrative leave since July. According to reports, he was arrested Tuesday and was booked into the Hamilton County Jail late in the evening. He was later released on a $25,000 bond.

Bottom line: Deputy Daniel Wilkey, a sick and twisted Christian extremist, has been indicted on multiple charges after engaging in gross misconduct, including giving a woman busted with marijuana a choice: Baptism or jail.
