Truth: President Joe Biden identifies white supremacists as “the most dangerous people” in America while appearing on a recent CNN town hall event.

Haaretz reports:

U.S. President Joe Biden, saying domestic terrorism was the “greatest threat” in America and white supremacists are the “most dangerous people,” pledged to focus his Justice Department on the rise of white supremacy.

CNN reports:

President Biden said White supremacists are the greatest domestic terror threat in the US during a town hall event. “It’s complex, it’s wide ranging, and it’s real,” Biden added.

“I would make sure that my Justice Department and the Civil Rights Division is focused heavily on those very folks, and I would make sure that we, in fact, focus on how to deal with the rise of White supremacy,” he said.

Biden explained that his administration would also look into the impact of the rise of White supremacy in specific groups including, the military and former police officers.

He called people who support White supremacist ideals “demented” and “dangerous.”

Biden, appearing in Milwaukee on Tuesday at a CNN town hall event hosted by Anderson Cooper, was asked about white supremacists by Joel Berkowitz, a professor at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Biden responded in part by noting:

I got involved in politics to begin with because of civil rights and opposition to white supremacists, the Ku Klux Klan, and the most dangerous people in America continue to exist.

Biden continued:

That is the greatest threat to terror in America, domestic terror. And so I would make sure that my Justice Department and the civil rights division is focused heavily on those very folks, and I would make sure that we, in fact, focus on how to deal with the rise of white supremacy.

Biden’s acknowledgement of the simple truth that domestic terrorism is the “greatest threat” in America and white supremacists are the “most dangerous people” in America is refreshing. However, not everyone is happy that Biden is willing to call out the real threat white supremacists pose.

For example, Fox News host Tucker Carlson was not pleased with Biden’s remarks. Commenting on the president’s remarks, an angry Carlson declared:

White supremacy is the problem, he told us. It’s a wide-ranging threat. It’s the main problem. You’ve heard that so often that it probably doesn’t register anymore. Every day, there’s some KKK terrorist out there, lying in wait. Where is the plot? Of course, they don’t tell you where the plot is, but every moment the terrorists don’t strike is just proof they are planning something bigger and more sinister.

There’s no evidence this is true. They’re creating extremism, by the way, by saying it. They seem to be pushing for it. It’s crazy, crazier than the Russia hoax. It’s dangerous. This isn’t just about taking down Mike Flynn or George Papadopoulos, it’s dividing the country against itself. It’s impugning people with the worst slur they have. And now, it’s being used as a pretext to marshal the force of the state against its own people.

Reading between the lines, Carlson’s protest sounds like a tacit defense of white supremacy, and an implicit identification of white supremacy with Republican values.

Bottom line: President Joe Biden identifies white supremacists as “the most dangerous people” in America while appearing on a recent CNN town hall event.
