Good Riddance: Derrick Evans, the West Virginia lawmaker and domestic terrorist who recorded himself storming the U.S. Capitol with his fellow Trump-loving terrorists, has resigned.

Yesterday, Evans was arrested and charged for his crimes. CNN reports:

A West Virginia Republican state lawmaker who recorded himself storming the US Capitol during a deadly riot there earlier this week is facing a criminal charge, US officials announced Friday.

Derrick Evans, a member of the West Virginia House of Delegates, has been charged in a criminal complaint with entering a restricted area and entering the US Capitol, said Ken Kohl, a top official in the US attorney’s office for Washington.

And earlier today, Evans resigned. Metro News of West Virginia reports:

Derrick Evans, facing federal charges for entering the U.S. Capitol with a mob, has resigned from West Virginia’s House of Delegates.

In a one-page letter submitted to West Virginia Governor Jim Justice and the House, Evans wrote:

I hereby resign as a member of the House of Delegates, effective immediately.

In addition, the West Virginia House released another statement from Evans expressing his regret for being a domestic terrorist:

I take full responsibility for my actions, and deeply regret any hurt, pain or embarrassment I may have caused my family, friends, constituents and fellow West Virginians.

I hope this action I take today can remove any cloud of distraction from the state Legislature, so my colleagues can get to work in earnest building a brighter future for our state. And more importantly, I hope it helps to begin the healing process, so we can all move forward and come together as ‘One Nation, Under God.’

That “One Nation, Under God” bit is significant for Evans. The domestic terrorist who stormed the U.S. Capitol is a conservative Christian who was elected to office after becoming something of a folk hero to other conservative Christians in West Virginia, gaining notoriety for harassing and stalking women seeking abortion in the state.

BuzzFeed notes that before being elected to the West Virginia House, Evans was “a well-known anti-abortion activist who garnered a following by harassing people at West Virginia clinics.”

Because nothing says “Christian values” like domestic terrorism and harassing women seeking medical care.

Earlier this week, on his Facebook page, Evans tried to deny any wrongdoing by claiming he was “simply there as an independent member of the media.” Yet the video that he posted shows that he was not a journalist, but a willing participant leading his fellow domestic terrorists into the building.

Bottom line: West Virginia Lawmaker Derrick Evans, one of the Trump-loving domestic terrorists who stormed the U.S. Capitol earlier this week, has resigned in disgrace.
