Dangerous Idiot: Congressman Louie Gohmert has tested positive for COVID-19 after publicly refusing to wear a face mask.
NBC News reports:
Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, who has refused to wear a face mask, tested positive for the coronavirus Wednesday shortly before he was expected to travel with President Donald Trump to Texas.
Gohmert, 66, tested positive during the routine screening at the White House prior to boarding Air Force One, multiple sources familiar with the matter told NBC News.
Politico reports:
Rep. Louie Gohmert — a Texas Republican who has been walking around the Capitol without a mask — has tested positive for the coronavirus, according to multiple sources.
Gohmert was scheduled to fly to Texas on Wednesday morning with President Donald Trump and tested positive in a pre-screen at the White House. The eighth-term Republican told CNN last month that he was not wearing a mask because he was being tested regularly for the coronavirus.
Last month, speaking with CNN, the ignorant Texas Republican tried to justify his refusal to wear a face mask, even while on the House floor. Gohmert, ignoring the science and the recommendations of health professionals, said he didn’t need to wear a mask because he didn’t have any symptoms, despite the fact that asymptomatic people can spread the virus.
At the time Gohmert told CNN:
“I don’t have the coronavirus, turns out as of yesterday I’ve never had it. But if I get it, you’ll never see me without a mask.”
When told that health experts say that people who don’t have symptoms may be carrying the virus and can unknowingly spread it to others, Gohmert responded:
“But I keep being tested and I don’t have it. So I’m not afraid of you, but if I get it I’ll wear a mask.”
The only reason Gohmert knows that he is COVID-19 positive is that he was tested for the virus because he was scheduled to fly to Texas with President Trump. Otherwise he would still be wandering around the House floor, oblivious, without a mask, infecting other lawmakers and their staff.
After announcing he had the virus Gohmert went on to make the ridiculous claim that wearing a mask caused him to be infected with COVID-19, explaining:
It’s really ironic, because you know a lot of people have made a big deal out of me not wearing a mask a lot, but in the last week or two, I have worn a mask, more than I have in the whole last four months. But I can’t help but wonder if my keeping a mask on and keeping it in place that if I might have put some germs or some of the virus onto the mask and breathed it in — I don’t know.
But I got it, we’ll see what happens from here, but the reports of my demise are very premature. And, you know fake news media appear to have tweeted out that Nadler admonished me yesterday at the Judiciary hearing for not wearing a mask, but he didn’t admonish me. I was wearing my mask, there were a couple of other Republicans that were not wearing a mask at the time.
For the record, you don’t get COVID-19 by wearing a mask.
Bottom line: Congressman Louie Gohmert, a dangerous idiot, has tested positive for COVID-19 after publicly refusing to wear a face mask.
