In case you need to know what the difference is between the two major political parties, evangelist Franklin Graham offers a perfect example of it.
If Democrats win both of the Senate seats in next week’s runoffs in Georgia, they would take control of the chamber, with Vice President Kamala Harris casting any tie-breaking votes. Democrats would still be at the mercy of its most conservative members — Joe Manchin of West Virginia, to name one — but legislation could pass, COVID relief could go out to millions of people without Republicans getting in the way, election reform and criminal justice reform could theoretically pass, and we could see a functioning government once again.
Graham, not surprisingly, wants the two Republicans to win the seats. But his only selling point is that if Democrats win, LGBTQ people would have civil rights protections.
That’s it. That’s his biggest fear. Nothing else matters.
Christians who believe the Bible and live in Georgia—the soul of our nation is at stake. I ask you to rally God’s army to PRAY and VOTE in this run-off for the Senate. Please encourage your family, your friends, your community to pray and to vote. Many people believe the presidential election was stolen from Donald J. Trump, and if conservatives lose control of the Senate, there is nothing to stop the radical agenda of the left. There will not be another chance to get this right. The nation is depending on you.
Why are these two seats so important? The control of the U.S. Senate is at stake. The Senate is the last line of defense to block the radical, wicked agenda that is trying to take control of our nation. These two seats will determine whether liberal socialist-leaning progressives OR conservative lawmakers have a majority. The policies supported by those on the left promise to be openly hostile to those who hold Christian beliefs.
Liberal, so called progressives, immediately want to pass The Equality Act which is anything but equal. It is an attempt to rid our country of religious freedom protections. Progressives could pass this easily and quickly with control of the Senate. Friends, this is dangerous. This would change our nation at its very foundation–and yes, it would also greatly change your everyday life. It will vastly alter the America that we leave for our children and grandchildren.
I encourage Christians across the country to pray for this election–and if you live in Georgia, vote before it’s too late.
The only thing Graham worries about is that a Christian baker who sells wedding cakes might have to take the money of gay couples who want to make a purchase.
We’re worried about democracy and survival. He’s worried about trans people being able to use public restrooms. (How would the latter “change your everyday life”? I have no idea. Christians must pee differently from the rest of us.)
That’s what conservative Christian morality gets you: fear and hate-mongering. Graham has nothing else to offer because his morality is warped and poisonous, and that’s true of his followers as well.
The same people who blocked civil rights decades ago are doing it again, and they’re wearing the banner of Christianity. Voters in Georgia — including decent Christians — have the power to push back against faith-based bigotry. The rest of us can pressure them to vote early, or volunteer our time, or send money to the candidates and groups working on the ground to defeat Mitch McConnell’s obstruction.
So much is riding on it.
