If Karma Was Real: Oregon State Senator Fred Girod, a Republican and a climate change denier who made headlines by preventing a vote on climate change legislation last year, lost his home to one of the wildfires currently ravaging the state.
The Daily Beast reports:
Among the thousands who have lost their homes to unprecedented West Coast wildfires in recent days is one of the notorious Oregon 11—the Republican state senators who twice staged a walkout to stop a Democratic majority from passing a climate change bill.
Raw Story reports:
One of the Oregon lawmakers who staged two walkouts to block Democrats from passing a climate change bill has lost his home to wildfire linked by scientists to climate change.
…
The 69-year-old Girod and his wife escaped the blaze but lost their Lyons home and three cats, but he rejects the overwhelming scientific consensus that wildfires sweeping the west are made worse by changes to the climate.
However, despite suffering a personal tragedy in a wildfire directly tied to climate change, Girod continues to deny the science, and instead blames environmentalists for the fires. Responding to questions about his climate change denial, Girod said:
Climate change is not the problem. The environmentalists have loaded up the timber area with nothing but fuel. That cost me my house.
If you want to go blame it on climate change, go [ahead]. All the bellyaching is absolutely unconscionable.
Girod is an anti-science imbecile. He is a coward who abandoned his duty as a state senator by walking out of the senate two different times in order to prevent a vote on climate change. He is a deplorable public servant, and a disgrace to the state of Oregon.
As one might imagine, Girod is being mocked on social media for his willful ignorance:
Bottom line: Oregon State Senator Fred Girod, a Republican and a climate change denier who made headlines by preventing a vote on climate change legislation last year, lost his home to one of the wildfires ravaging the state.
