Stupid For Jesus: In a new Facebook post leading evangelist Franklin Graham urges Christians in California to reject science, to reject any concern for public health, and defy the state’s lockdown order by going to church.
Writing on Facebook Graham declared:
After Pastor John MacArthur announced that his congregation at Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California, would be assembling in obedience to the Word of God, he received a letter from Los Angeles county government officials threatening repercussions such as fines and even possible arrest.
But Pastor MacArthur said he isn’t worried about that—he and the church elders voted unanimously that the church will be open this Sunday and every Sunday. He said, ‘It has never been the prerogative of civil government to order, modify, forbid, or mandate worship.’
They will not render to Caesar what is God’s, so they will continue to meet as the church every Sunday. I agree with Pastor MacArthur and appreciate his call for “the church to be the church in this world.”
If I were in Southern California this weekend, I would love to attend their service tomorrow—and if you live anywhere in southern California, I urge you to get up tomorrow morning and go! It will be worth the drive.
Not only will you hear a great message from the Bible, but this would be taking an important stand for our religious freedom.
In other words, taking a stand for “religious freedom” requires Christians to place their life and health at risk, as well as the life and health of everyone else.
Graham’s position is profoundly ignorant and selfish. But that should come as no surprise. Last month, in a deplorable attempt to repudiate statements made by Dr. Anthony Fauci, Graham expressed anger that one of the nation’s top infectious disease experts suggested that “anti-science bias” is a problem in the United States, particularly when it comes to the response to the current coronavirus pandemic.
An angry Graham answered Fauci’s concern about anti-science bias by declaring:
Science isn’t truth – God is.
At one point in his anti-science, anti-Fauci rant Graham declared:
Man did not evolve from apes or tadpoles as many scientists say. That’s just not true—God created man and woman as the Bible says.
The stupid, it burns.
