Death Cult: Fox News host Tucker Carlson makes the dishonest and false claim that mask-wearing and social distancing is “bizarre health theater” with “no basis of any kind in science.”
Carlson, appearing on his Fox News program Tuesday night, declared:
Many schools that do plan to reopen will do so under a series of restrictions that have no basis of any kind in science. It’s a kind of bizarre health theater. Students will be kept 6 feet apart, everyone will have to wear a mask, class size will be limited and in some there will be scheduled bathroom breaks, etcetera, etcetera.
Carlson’s claim that social distancing and mask-wearing have no basis in science is false. It is dangerous propaganda that will only hurt people. Reporting on Carlson’s irresponsible and false claim, Salon notes:
This is simply not true. An analysis of 172 studies on coronavirus interventions found that “mask wearing significantly reduces the risk of viral transmission.” Numerous studies have also demonstrated the “effectiveness of physical distancing.”
What makes Carlson’s dangerous and irresponsible claim even more baffling is the fact that back in March Carlson told his audience the truth, that masks work:
Of course, masks work. Everyone knows that. Dozens of research papers have proved it. In South Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, the rest of Asia — where coronavirus has been kept under control — masks were key.
The following is a sample of reactions via Twitter:
Bottom line: Fox News host Tucker Carlson makes the dishonest and false claim that social distancing and mask-wearing is “bizarre health theater” with “no basis of any kind in science.”
