Fail: A Christian summer camp in Missouri has been forced to close after 82 campers and staff members were infected with COVID-19.
At least 82 campers, counselors and staff at a summer camp in southwestern Missouri have been infected with COVID-19, according to state health officials.
NBC News reports:
When Kanakuk Kamps, a prominent network of Christian camps in Missouri, opened their five overnight camps on May 30, parents could feel assured by what they read in camp materials that protocols were organized, and in place, to keep children and staff safe amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Then, on June 26, families were notified by mass-email that the camp known as “K-2,” in Lampe, had two positive cases. Two days later the number was 42. Then 82. The Stone County Health Department is monitoring the outbreak, but the people really forced to deal with the fallout are the families themselves.

The Kanakuk camp in Lampe, Missouri, had promised kids ages 13–18 fun activities and Bible studies, but campers were sent home last week due to a coronavirus outbreak.
On July 6, the Stone County Health Department blew the whistle on the summer camp, noting:
Stone County Health Department (SCHD) continues to further investigate the Covid-19 cases at Kanakuk K-2 camp in Lampe (Stone County). At the time of this release 82 campers, counselors and staff have tested positive for Covid-19. All 82 positive cases were from the Kanakuk K-2 camp in Lampe. Many of these cases returned to their place of residence and then tested positive.
According to the camp’s website, the Christian summer camp welcomes teens ages 13–18 for “over-the-top fun and activities, deep friendships, biblical discipleship, and focused sports training.”
Bottom line: After ignoring the pandemic and demonstrating an appalling lack of judgement and concern for campers and staff,a Christian summer camp in Missouri has been forced to close after 82 campers and staff members were infected with COVID-19.
