On Top of Weekly Tithes and Offerings?
The church roof is needing repairs in the tune of $250,000, and Relentless Church pastor John Gray has asked his congregation to foot the bill. And guess what, that’s in addition to what’s already collected for weekly tithes and offering.
Just a little background on this situation, Pastor Gray said he inherited millions of dollars in debt when the Relentless Church took over the building from outgoing Pastor Ron Carpenter. He moved his Redemption Church ministry to California after 25 years at the Greensville, South Carolina.
The video that’s starting circulating was from a sermon on February, 10th, where Gray broke down the church’s financial need. But remember this is after, the pastor received tons of backlash after major giving his wife a truck that costs over $200,000! He gave is wife, a brand new Urus, a new truck made by foreign manufacturer Lamborghini. It was a gift for their 8th wedding anniversary celebration. She was literally screaming.
The pastor gave this expensive truck to his wife, after just ahead of the “emotional affair” with is alleged mistress.
Pastor broke down the numbers on the $250,000
Ok, now back to the roof and what he needs. Pastor Gray broke down the numbers, saying if 2,5000 people gave $100, they could pay for the roof. Or, if 500 people gave $300, they could pay for it.
“So now we need 499 ’cause I got $300 on it. Anybody else?” Gray asked. “The work must continue. This is not a plea for money, it’s a plea for partnership so we can be what we’re supposed to be.”
“(Ron Carpenter) handed us keys. The keys were not to a paid off building, the keys were to an opportunity, an opportunity to continue the work,” Gray said. “Nothing you see is paid off. It wasn’t paid off when we got here.”
Gray said the roof was put on the building in 2004. He wanted to collect the $250,000 from churchgoers by April 3.
Relentless CFO Travis Hayes said;
“This is not anything new,” Travis Hayes, chief financial officer for Relentless, said. “This is a practice that is done with every denomination in the nation. That’s what this is. This is an asset that belongs to the church.”
His House Is The Same Costs of 25 Homes
Back in October, it’s reported Relentless Church purchased a $1.8 million home. According to Greensville Online, church leaders said the Relentless-owned home was needed to attract a leader of Gray’s caliber. The site reports:
The house in the Southampton community in Simpsonville is 7,247 square feet, consistent with the size and value of about 25 homes in the community.
Severe Weather Is Why He Needs The Roof
Pastor Gray said he was concerned about severe weather that’s predicted to come to the area this Spring. He said the repairs would allow Relentless Church to be a “safe place” for those seeking shelter from the storms.
“The Holy Ghost said this to me so I’m going to speak it out, that there is severe weather coming to the region this spring because of all of the climate change and issues,” Gray said. “Whether you understand all the science behind it or not, or agree, I heard the Lord say, ‘I want you to make sure the house is covered so that when storms come people can come in here and be covered.’”
